In the golden autumn, the School of Environment and Energy welcomed 159 undergraduate students, 198 master’s students, and 72 doctoral students from the 2023 class. At 1:30 pm on September 8, 2023, the School of Environment and Energy’s 2023 freshmen opening ceremony was grandly held at the university town campus music hall. He Jianhua, the secretary of the school party committee for the School of Environment and Energy, Zhu Nengwu, the executive vice Dean of the school, and other dignitaries were in attendance.

First Vice Dean, Zhu Nengwu, delivered a speech and provided the first ideological and political class from the dean. He welcomed and congratulated the new students, giving a detailed introduction of the overall situation and scientific research level of the School of Environment and Energy. He expressed his hopes for the students to make good use of the platform provided by the school, aiming to accumulate knowledge and achieve success. The representative of the 2023 master’s students, Fu Qixian, and the representative of the 2020 seniors and the recipient of the “Top Ten Good Students” honor at the university, Jian Zhanqiang, delivered speeches. Fu Qixian shared her story of youth in three aspects: “Shouldering heavy responsibilities in entrepreneurship and dedication,” “Showcasing elegance in innovation and creation,” and “Realizing value in professional dedication to the country.” On the other hand, Jian Zhanqiang spoke on the theme of “The way of the university, the way of seeking truth,” narrating his own struggles. It is hoped that every student entering the School of Environment and Energy will be able to learn from these outstanding students, and be erudite and thoughtful, looking up to the sky with a firm belief; and strive forward with solid steps!

And on the occasion of the opening ceremony, He Jianhua, the secretary of the school party committee, awarded appointment letters to the new student advisors and class teachers.  Professor Huang Haibao, a doctoral graduate of the 2008 batch, delivered a speech as the representative of the outstanding alumni. Huang Haibao, who now serves as a doctoral supervisor at Sun Yat-sen University, a leading figure in the field of atmospheric environment and pollution control, and the director of the Guangdong-Hong Kong Air Pollution Control Research Center and the Guangdong Provincial Indoor Air Pollution Control Engineering Technology Research Center, began his speech with a self-composed five-character poem, expressing deep affection for the alma mater. Huang Haibao expressed hopes for the new students to strive for excellence and become contributors to the environment cause of the country and society.

Following this, a signing ceremony was held between Professor Shi Lin of the school and representatives from Inner Mongolia Enenghui Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. Both parties jointly established the “Inner Mongolia Ernenghui Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd.-South China University of Technology Coal-based Solid Waste Soil Remediation Technology Joint Laboratory.” The entire leadership team of the school witnessed the signing ceremony. This collaboration between the school and the enterprise will further promote the high-quality development of the school, benefiting all teachers and students!
