The part-time professor appointment ceremony for Prof. Kurt Thurmaier is held at SHAW Building of Science on June 7th. The Vice-President of SCUT Prof. Zhumin awarded the appointment certificate to Prof. Thurmaier, and then both parts exchanged souvenirs with each other. The leaders of International Office and SPA-SCUT attended the ceremony.
Prof. Thurmaier is the director and professor of Public Administration Division of North Illinois University, with personal academic concentration on public budget and city management, enjoying well-known fames in the academic circle. It is reported that Prof. Thurmaier’s visit to SCUT aimed at establishing close collaboration relationship between SCUT and NIU, especially for the student joint-training program.
After the appointment ceremony, Prof. Thurmaier delivered a speech entitled “Balancing Accountability As Local Government Officials”. During the speech, Prof. Thurmaier vividly demonstrated the principles and functions of accountability with empirical analysis of the Mexico gulf oil pollution crisis; he attached great importance to the significance of balancing the multi- accountabilities in the operation of public administration. During the Q&A stage, Prof. Thurmaier pleasurably responded to the audiences’ questions, sharing more constructive thinking with the SCUT students. In spite of 2-hour time limit, the whole speech still won satisfactory effects. What’s more, Prof. Thurmaier’s visit to SCUT laid a good foundation for the mutual exchange between SCUT and NIU, and also propelled the internationalization of SAP-SCUT.
