报告摘要:

The use of micro unmanned aerial vehicles (MUAVs), also known as drones, has gained much popularity for various military, public, and civil applications. Thanks to their mobility and flexibility, remote controlled and automated MUAVs allow the accomplishment of different tasks without the need of direct human intervention. Recent advances in electronics and sensing technologies have broadened the scope of MUAV applications. Such applications include traffic monitoring, border surveillance, disaster management, public safety, and environmental services. These lightweight drones can be equipped with communication systems allowing them to interact with other ground and/or flying nodes. Due to their flexible three-dimensional(3D) positioning, they have the potential to have reliable wireless communications with reduced path loss effect. This talk will cover potentials, challenges, and some recent progress of MUAV-assisted wireless communications.

报告人简介:

Prof. Dr. Md. Jahangir Hossain is an Associate Professor in the school of School of Engineering in The University of British Columbia, Canada. He is also visiting professor in the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia, July 2017. He had completed his Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia, Canada; his master’s from the University of Victoria, Canada; and Bachelor from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh. He is a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) status as follows of IEEE, senior member of the IEEE Communication Society, International Union of Radio Science (URSI) in Canada and Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientist of British Columbia (APEGBC). He was a research fellow at Institute for Telecommunications Research, The University of South Australia, Australia. His teaching interests include communications, signal processing and probability and random processes.

He has also gained practical experiences towards developing contemporary wireless communication systems through his industrial appointments. In particular, he has worked at Intel Inc., USA as a research intern and at Redline Communications, Canada as a senior system engineer. His research has focused on developing bandwidth and energy efficient technologies for wireless systems, which lead to longer battery life and the ability to support high data rate applications for devices such as laptops, smart phones, and tablets.
