The department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering (NAOE) was founded in 1958, which is a discipline of cultivating talents for the field of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering. Our department is the only NAOE discipline of undergraduate in South China and offers both master and doctoral degrees. We began to recruit graduate students in 1965, and became one of the first universities who owned the master's degree authorization points of ship engineering in 1981. We got the 2nd degree doctoral granting authorization for major of naval architecture and marine engineering structure designed manufacturing in 2003, and established postdoctoral research station for major of naval architecture and marine engineering in 2014. In 2018, we got the 1st degree doctoral granting authorization for major of naval architecture and marine engineering. We have trained lots of undergraduates, master students and doctoral students ever since 1958. These graduates have become the technical backbones, managers or leaders in ships and marine engineering enterprises around China, especially in the Southern China. More than 1/3 of the chief engineer or the responsible person of the ship and ocean enterprises in the Southern China, graduated from our university. Our undergraduates/graduates are capable of designing, surveying, researching, manufacturing, planning and managing in the field of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering. The graduates can be engaged in design, manufacturing, inspection, supervision and management in naval architecture and marine engineering organizations, including equipment manufacturing and engineering construction enterprises, design institutes, domestic and foreign shipping classification societies, maritime bureaus, shipping ports, marine energy development firms, etc. So the graduates from this department have a broad prospect for development and the employment rate is nearly 100%.
