The 2nd “Guangxia Cup” Structural Design Competition of Information Technology in universities of Guangdong, Hongkong and Macao was held from Nov. 3rd, 2014 to May 10th, 2015. SCUT organized 15 teams altogether, among which 13 won prizes: 2 first prizes, 3 second prizes, 7 third prizes and 1 winning prize. Besides, the SCET team won the excellent group prize. Two teachers--Li Jing and Chen Taicong-- were awarded excellent instructor prizes.
The competition attracted 231 teams from 22 universities to take part in. Among them, 127 teams submitted their effective entries. During the contest, professionals from Shenzhen Guangxia Technology Company provided training for participants and instructors on the use of software. After initial and final assessments made by experts, 2 excellent group prizes, 6 first prizes, 12 second prizes, 33 third prizes, 35 winning prizes and 6 excellent instructor prizes came out.
With Guangdong Science and Technology Association being a supporter, the competition was hosted by Guangdong Civil Engineering Society (GDCES), Guangdong Architectural Design and Research Institute (GDADRI), School of Civil Engineering and Transportation (SCET) of SCUT, undertaken by GDADRI and SCET of SCUT, and co-organized by Shenzhen Guangxia Technology Company. The contest played an important role in promoting reforms of the training of professional talents of civil engineering or other related majors in Guangdong universities, enhancing the quality of applied and creative talents in universities of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and boosting communications for students learning civil engineering in these areas. Apart from that, it was well-received among students for its effectiveness. It not only enriched the extracurricular scientific innovative contents of students, improved their practical operation techniques for structural design, but also shortened their run-in period and re-education period while graduating from school and working on design.
