Recently, Zhou Li, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange of Ministry of Education, visited South China University of Technology (SCUT) to gain an in-depth understanding of the university’s progress in internationalization efforts. SCUT Vice President Xu Yong welcomed the delegation, and expressed gratitude to the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange for the enduring attention and steadfast support to the university. XU briefed SCUT’s development and key achievements in internationalization. Seizing the opportunity of being selected as a Pilot for International Education Reform in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, SCUT has been strategically advancing both bringing in and going global initiatives to promote well-coordinated international engagement. Leveraging the Guangzhou International Campus, the university has introduced high-quality global resources, actively fostering a model of internationalization at home and two-way internationalization that reinforce each other. Additionally, SCUT has capitalized on the opportunities presented by the Greater Bay Area development to deepen diverse and high-quality collaborations with universities in Hong Kong and Macao.
As a pioneer in higher education within the Greater Bay Area, Xu Yong emphasized that SCUT remains committed to its mission of fostering virtue through education and nurturing talents for the Region and the nation. In alignment with the nation’s call for high-level opening-up in the education sector, the university will accelerate the advancement of internationalization at home and two-way internationalization with Guangzhou International Campus as the power train, further speeding up its journey toward becoming a world-class university.
Zhou Li acknowledged that opening up in education serves as a vital driver for both national openness and the modernization of education. In recent years, SCUT has effectively integrated bringing in and going global initiatives, innovated institutional mechanisms, and pioneered a distinctive approach to building a world-class university while staying firmly rooted in China. She encouraged SCUT to fully leverage its geographical advantages in the Greater Bay Area, take bold steps in institutional innovation, and spearhead more internationalization practices to contribute to the nation’s high-quality internationalization of education.
The delegation also conducted a field visit to the Guangzhou International Campus. Representatives from the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, the Guangzhou International Campus General Affairs Office, the Global Affairs Office, and the Teaching Affairs Office participated in the activities.
